Bayswater Road’s Restaurant Woes

With its grand launch in mid-May, the closure of Janus in Kings Cross makes it the shortest-lived restaurant of the year.
Janus was a newly opened restaurant in the Bayswater Road in Sydney. But after barely a couple of months from its opening, the Italian restaurant is closing its doors.

Opening in the site where the Concrete Blonde used to serve its customers, Janus was said to have inherited part of the problem that Concrete Blonde also encountered. The latter had gone over many challenges, including changing its chefs one too many times before it finally closed its doors in February.

Just like Janus, Concrete Blonde also boasted of a high profile opening, with its interiors pegged at $2.5 Million, and its walls decked with expensive wine.

According to the landlord who dealt with both Janus and Concrete Blonde, however, it just didn’t work out.

According to the property handler for the site, “There’s a huge leg-up with the site’s multimillion-dollar interior and we are already talking about the reactivation of the site with potential operators.” It is hoping to land the right tenant this time.

The restaurant is apparently located in one of Sydney’s problematic “eat streets” —- the Bayswater Road. The strip was once a very important site, but it looks like many of the diners here open and close with barely six months of operation.
