Virgin Australia Transitions to New Check-In System
Virgin Australia announced that it has transitioned to its new booking and check-in system over the weekend. Although the transition caused longer lines for some of its flights, the airline company said the overall transition was smooth.
Virgin Australia, meanwhile, continues to advise its passengers to arrive at the airports a little earlier to ensure that they will not be late for their flights.
This is the first weekend that Virgin Australia used Sabre’s global reservations system. It made the transition from Navitaire, an Accenture-owned system.
The airline’s 8,000 employees underwent training to prepare for the new system. Virgin Australia also had a team of computer experts and support staff to ensure that the transition would go smoothly.
The transition to a new system would allow Virgin to have better links to Singapore Airlines and Etihad, its alliance partners. The new system would also allow Virgin Australia flights to be visible to many travel agents from all over the world.
Emma Copeman said the airline has received reports that there were longer queues in airports like Los Angeles. In other airports like Perth, Brisbane, and Sydney, there were no reported queues. Copeman is the spokeswoman for Virgin Australia.
