Emirates Enjoys 104% Profit Surge
Emirates Airlines announced that it has reached some 104 percent in its net profits, covering the first half of the current fiscal year. The airline company credits the increasing volume of passengers.
In a statement, Emirates said the company reached some US$448 million net profit. Close to 19 million passengers also flew Emirates since April 1, 2012. The volume is about 15.4 percent higher compared to last year’s data.
The airline company also recorded about 35.42 billion dirham in revenues. This is about 17 percent higher compared to last year’s figure.
Emirates also said cargo volume was on the rise, increasing by about 16 percent. The company also said it is confident that cargo volume would continue to rise.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al-Maktoum commended the company workforce for their drive and hard work. Despite the tough economic times, the Emirates Group continues to grow. He added that the company would continue to invest in infrastructure.
Sheik Ahmed Saeed al-Maktoum is Emirates chairman and chief executive officer.
The announcement of its profit earnings came timely as its A380 superjumbo had to return to Sydney just shortly after it took off. The plane encountered an engine problem, which forced the pilot to turn back.
Emirates said the decision was a precaution. The A380 superjumbo was carrying about 380 passengers.
