Second Sydney Airport to Bring New Jobs
Another airport in Badgerys Creek has the great potential of creating new jobs. According to business groups, a second airport would stimulate economic growth in the western Sydney region.
David Borger said that the public is open to discuss the building of a new airport. He added that people are desperate to get new jobs in western Sydney.
Borger is the current director for the Sydney Business Chamber’s Western Sydney. He was also a Labor roads minister and Parramatta mayor.
Some 1,700 hectares of land in Badgerys Creek is being considered as the location for the second airport. The Hawke federal government identified the area in 1986. Politicians, however, were lukewarm to the idea of a second airport because of fears of environmental damage and noise.
Even Premier Barry O’Farrell is not supporting the idea. Some Parramatta mayors have also expressed their concerns on the second airport.
Sentiments, however, may be shifting as some politicians appear to be giving the idea some serious thought. Holroyd mayor Ross Grove said Western Sydney has changed a lot since 1986.
Grove added that a second airport would generate more jobs from the private sector, including additional investments. He, however, said that any plans to build a second airport should be supported with updated information.
Some politicians have also appealed to the federal government to hasten the construction of the new Sydney airport.
