Optus Axes 750 Jobs, Hires 200 Workers

After axing 750 jobs, Optus announced that it is hiring 200 works for its new retail stores.

According to Optus, the company is set to open about 33 additional ‘Yes’ Optus stores. These, in turn, would need some 200 more workers.

Just last week, Optus announced that it has completed the layoff of about 750 workers from support, back office and management functions. The retrenchment was first announced last May as Optus aimed to increase efficiencies and manage costs.

Optus said that the company is facing a competitive trading environment.

According to Optus, the company would stop selling services through Boost Mobile, the mobile business focusing on youth sales. Boost Mobile would also end its retain distribution partnerships with TeleChoice by March 2013.

Rohan Ganeson said the moves are consistent with company strategies of providing superior customer experience and advocacy. He added that the company recognizes that the market is now maturing and that consumer behavior is shifting.

Ganeson is the managing director of Optus.

The managing director also acknowledged that the company’s retail strategy should reflect the changing times so that it can interact with different customers better. Ganeson said that aim is to deliver a better and consistent experience in all the company’s sales channels.
