The Profile of a Job Hunter
Are you looking for a job? What are the characteristics of today’s job hunter?
A survey conducted by Addeco revealed that about 90 percent of hiring managers in the United States associate older workers with reliability and professionalism.
About 60 percent of hiring managers also see them as likely hires compared to younger workers. One of the reasons cited why they are a more desirable target is because they are less likely to require additional training to improve their writing skills.
The downside of employing mature workers is that hiring managers see them as requiring training for technological know-how.
Close to 75 percent of hiring managers, on the other hand, see the millennial workers are creative and strong networkers. Millennial workers are those who were born between the years 1981 and 2000.
According to Bloomberg contributor Chris Farrell, more jobs are expected to be created in the next few years until 2030. It is also likely that older Americans would get most of these jobs.
It is not surprising, though, because more Americans are delaying retirement by several years. They prefer to earn income and secure their families rather than retire and risk themselves outliving their money.
Mature workers are also more desirable because they are likely to have reached higher levels of education than their younger counterparts.
One trend worth noting is that companies are now more open to give second chances to people with a criminal record. A CareerBuilder study revealed that more than 50 percent of hiring managers said they have employed someone with a criminal past.
