Men Go Online to Shop
It used to be that shopping is women’s passion. Times are changing though as more men are going online to engage in e-commerce.
As brick-and-mortar stores are mostly designed and cater to women, the male species visit online stores like Thrillist and Bonobos to shop for clothes.
According to Thrillist founder Ben Lerer, the appeal of online shopping to men is it provides them a convenient and quick way to purchase items. Contrary to misconception that men hate fashion, the younger generation love to shop and discussing their favorite brands.
Lerer said most men care on how they look.
Data showed that the fashion e-commerce market is worth about $41 billion. Sites like Thrillist and Bonobos provide different kinds of services like product recommendations, shipments, etc.
The men’s fashion market is also growing an average rate of 13 percent annually. This is a much-faster growth compared to women’s market, which grows at 10 percent annually.
According to consumer tracking service NPD Group, men’s fashion market is expected to go even faster in the years to come.
Some established brands have been quick to adapt to e-commerce like Banana Republic, J Crew, and Gap. According to EMarketer, the clothing and accessories market will grow close to 80 percent by the year 2016. This is equivalent to US$73 billion.
The US Census Bureau also showed that men are further delaying getting married. This means single men have more money to spend for themselves.
