Zuckerberg Falls Off Forbes’ Richest
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is no longer part of Forbes’ list of 400 wealthiest people in America. The latest report from Forbes showed that Zuckerberg fell to no. 36.
The Facebook billionaire has reached as high as no. 14.
Observers said Zuckerberg’s lackluster standing is primarily because of Facebook’s unsuccessful IPO last May. It market value dropped by almost 50 percent since it was publicly offered. The drop translates to about US$8.1 billion.
His current net worth is estimated at about US$9.4 billion.
Bill Gates, the genius behind Microsoft, remains the richest man in America with US$66 billion net worth. He has consistently topped the list in the last 19 years.
Warren Buffett is in second place with a net worth of US$46 billion. Other billionaires in the top five include Larry Ellison, and Charles and David Koc. Ellison is co-founder of Oracle while the Koch brothers are behind Koch Industries.
The year is also tough for social media personalities. Mark Pincus from gaming giant Zynga dropped out of the list. The same goes for Eric Lefkofsky of Groupon.
According to Forbes, the richest people in the list grew their net work because of increased prices of stocks, and the increasing value of real estate.
Other personalities in the list include the Walton family of Wal-Mart Stores, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and NFL Jacksonville Jaguars’ Shahid Khan.
