$5 Million for an Investor Visa
Businessmen who are interested in investing in Australia can avail of the investor visa for a cool $5 million. The application for the investor visa will start on November of this year.
Immigration Minister Chris Bowen announced the program last May. The conditions on the investor visa, meanwhile, were introduced last Wednesday.
According to Bowen, $5 million is a sufficient basic amount for an investment contribution. The amount also provides a justification for some visa concessions like access to reduced requirements for residence, no age limit, and not being able to meet the points test.
The Immigration Minister added that business-savvy migrants should invest in territory government and state bonds. Investments should also be considered in managed funds that are regulated by the Australian Security Investment Commission.
In turn, these managed funds should be invested in unlisted private Australian companies or Australian assets.
And while visa holders have the choice to invest directly to some Australian companies, these organizations have to meet some qualifying business standards.
According to the Immigration Minister, an investor visa would have a validity of four years. A visa holder, however, can have the option to extend this for additional two-year periods.
Visa holders would also need to comply with the residence requirement of 160 days or a little more than five months throughout the validity of their visa.
