NBN Chief Executive Announces Retirement
Mike Quigley, the chief executive of the National Broadband Network (NBN) for four years has announced today that he is retiring.
Mr. Quigley in a press statement sait that he believes he was already able to complete his job’s mandate by laying out the foundations for NBN. He says that the telecommunications network has a solid foundation for “the next 30 years.”
Mr. Quigley’s replacement has not yet been named. But he says he could stay on until NBN appoints a new chief executive.
“I joined NBN Co because I believed better telecommunications was central to Australia’s ongoing success. I still believe that today.”
“The role of the next CEO will be to build on these foundations.”
Siobhan McKenna, the NBN chairman, supported Mr. Quigley’s decision and said that along with the company’s directors, they are proud of what he has achieve.
Earlier, rumors have been riped about Ms. McKenna’s gunning for his removal, but Mr. Quigley has denied this by saying his relationship with the chairman was a “good one.”
Replacing Mr. Quigley, however, may be set with delays as, according to analysts, NBN still has to work out infrastructure contracts and other problems with management.
Other industry insiders commended Mr. Quigley for his incredible work, despite the politics of the trade.
“At this very moment the top priority would be looking at the construction contracts that the NBN Co has in place,” says one analyst.
