November 12, 2012 by rochelle in Business with 0 Comments

Myer, Westfield, Target and Dick Smith have signed up to participate in the Australian version of Cyber Monday. Other Australian retailers will also join like Saba, Dan Murphy’s, SurfStitch and others.

Cyber Monday is an American shopping tactic where online US retailers offer substantial promos and discounts for shoppers. Conceptualized in 2005, Cyber Monday is held the first Monday immediately after Black Friday.

Black Friday is a national sales event that officially starts the Christmas shopping season in the US. It happens the day after Thanksgiving Day.

The Australian version of Cyber Monday will be called Click Frenzy. It will happen next Tuesday starting 7 PM and will run for 24 hours only. Close to 150 retailers are expected to participate and give as much as 90 percent discounts.

Close to one million shoppers are expected to participate. Grant Arnott said he expects a record turnout in terms of volume and transaction on that day. Arnott is the event organizer for Click Frenzy.

Arnott shared that the idea behind Click Frenzy is to stimulate consumer activity in the online space. He added that this would be a start of a new shopping tradition for Australians and would give retailers a boost in time for the holidays.

Shoppers can purchase goods via their mobile devices like laptops, iPads and even mobile phones.
