Happy Halloween for Retailers

Retailers like Woolworths and Coles are happy to announce that sales are on an uphill, thanks to the coming Halloween season. The two retail giants have reported about 30 percent sales increase from pumpkins, costumers, etc.

Halloween, to be celebrated on Oct. 31, has also become a cash cow for other retailers. About 100,000 pieces of Jack O’ Lanterns are expected to sell this year while Halloween costumes, candies, chocolates and even beer are also expected to be sold out.

Other items that are likely to sell like hotcakes include fake blood, pumpkins, and fangs.

The excitement surrounding Halloween means retailers, gift shop owners and grocers would spend millions of Australian dollars for promotions, decorations and catalogues in an effort to entice shoppers to buy more Halloween items.

It appears that Halloween has become a more exciting time for younger Australians and are embracing the season with open arms.

The results of a McCrindle Research revealed that the youth market is primarily the target of Halloween. More than 50 percent of GenYs celebrate the event, followed by about 45 percent of GenX and 40 percent of Baby Boomers.

Aussie parents with school-aged kids are also likely to be involved in Halloween preparations and activities.

Mark McCrindle said more Aussies are now accustomed to celebrating Halloween. McCrindle is the founder and social researcher of McCrindle Research.
