Aussie Women Earning More
Aussie women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s are becoming a force to reckon with. The latest census analysis showed that one in every four Sydney workers is earning more than $100,000 a year. And that person is a she.
The analysis from Pitney Bowes Software revealed that Sydney is the primary location where there are a lot of high-income and professional women. According to Pitney’s chief economist Bob Schwartz, these women earn as much as six figures annually.
The analysis also showed that Sydenham-Tempe-St Peters area has the highest concentration of high-income women. About 42 percent of workers that earn more than $2,000 weekly are women.
Schwartz added that these high-earning women are single and focused on building their careers.
Marketing consultant Amanda Stevens has labeled this phenomenon as the “diamond collective.” Stevens said the high salaries of these women also equate to high discretionary spending. She also uses the term “independent princesses” to describe them.
According to Stevens, these women have the economic power that women of past generations did not have. These high-earners earn and spend more. In the process, they also stay single longer. She added that these women do not feel the pressure of starting a family immediately.
Stevens also said that these high-earners help keep the economy growing despite the many challenges it faces. She added that based on the qualitative research she conducted, these women continued to spend even during an economic downturn.
Because of Sydney’s commercial strengths, it is not a mystery why more women want to work here. Sydney has always been an attractive city for banking, finance, advertising, marketing, fashion, entertainment, among others.
