QLD Support for Labor at 23%
The battle looks uphill for Labor as only 23 percent of Queensland voters appear to support Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s team in the next federal election.
A newly released survey from Galaxy Poll showed that primary vote for Labor slipped to a new low of 23 percent, a decrease of more than 10 points. This equates to a dual-party vote to the Coalition of 64-36. It is worth noting that this is the same number that nailed Labor at the state election.
This is also bad news on deciding what future of Gillard as the country’s prime minister.
According to the Gallup Poll, close to 60 percent of those surveyed believed that Labor should only have one or two seats in Queensland.
David Briggs said that it appears Queensland voters would give Gillard’s team the same judgment given to the Bligh government. Briggs is the head of Galaxy and the survey covered 800 respondents from Queensland.
The results of the poll also showed that only 25 percent of Queensland voters support Gillard’ carbon tax while a majority of 72 percent clearly opposed the move.
The Gillard government has clearly suffered from the scandals that rocked its people. Peter Slipper continues to be hounded by allegations of sexual misconduct, no thanks to former aide James Ashby.
And while Slipper denies the charges, the public has been critical of the Prime Minister for staying mum about it. It was only a couple of weeks ago when Gillard finally spoke about the issue when she asked Slipper to quit his post.
And judging by how the Queensland voters see Gillard, it appears that Labor will climb an uphill battle.
