Best Smartphone is Nokia Lumia, Says Siri
The engineers of tech giant Apple must be scratching their heads big time. The online world was buzzing with a major boo-boo of Apple’s Siri when it declared that the best smartphone is Nokia Lumia 900.
Last week, some iPhone 4S users couldn’t resist playing with Siri, Apple’s intelligent personal assistant. These users asked Siri what is the best smartphone ever. The result that came up is the Nokia Lumia 900.
But it looks like Apple has caught up with the embarrassing recommendation. When new attempts were made to ask Siri about the best smartphone, its reply was ‘Wait…there are other phones?’ Another common reply is ‘You’re kidding, right?’
Nokia is quick to jump on the bandwagon, saying Apple deliberately overrode the system to correct the embarrassing situation. Spokeswoman Tracy Postill said Apple clearly didn’t like what Siri suggested.
Apple, however, refused to comment on the issue and industry observers said it is unlikely that Apple would ever address the controversy.
Search Engine Land author Danny Sullivan believes that Apple has nothing to do with that change in Siri’s recommendation. He said that the change may have something to do with Wolfram Alpha. This is the search engine that provides the results for Siri.
Sullivan said the results showed by Siri are based on the reviews from Best Buy and other recommendations. Apple iPhone 4S does not rank high on Wolfram Alpha’s best smartphones list. It actually ranks 14th.
iPhone 4S was released a few days before the death of Apple founder Steve Jobs. Many believed that 4S was a tribute to Jobs and is a shortened term for ‘For Steve.’
