Are You Switching From iCloud to Google Drive?

Google plans to overtake Apple’s iCloud to become the largest digital filing cabinet in the world. The tech giant has formally launched Google Drive yesterday after months of speculation. 

Google Drive replaces the old Google Docs. Users can save photos, videos, documents and other digital content via the service. These stored files can be readily accessed via tablet computers, laptops, smartphones and other devices connected to the Internet. 

Users can also share these files to friends, co-workers, or family members by sending the links. 

Google Drive initially offers five gigabytes of storage for free. This is on a per-account basis. If users would require more storage space, prices start at US$2.49 monthly for 25 gigabytes. A one terabyte storage space would fetch $49.99 monthly. 

Google Drive runs on Window-based computers, Mac and laptops that run on Chrome, Google’s operating system. Android phones can also use Google Drive. Industry observers expect that Google Drive for iPhone and iPad will roll out in the next few weeks. 

Industry observers note that the availability of cloud storage would be beneficial to companies or household that use a lot of storage space. Instead of purchasing several machines for storage, users can access their Google Drive or iCloud accounts anytime and anywhere. 

It is worthy to note, however, that Google has entered the cloud computing arena quite late. The online world has been using Box, Dropbox and iClouds for quite a while now. 

Google executives hope that Google Drive will be able to catch up and even surpass the existing services.
