2Day FM Under “Royal Hoax” Investigation

July 11, 2013 by rochelle in Business with 0 Comments

2Day FM is facing investigation because of the “royal hoax” tragedy.

The latest reports showed that the investigation stemmed from a request of the Scotland Yard to look into possible culpability of 2Day FM for airing the prank call without permission. The investigation will be conducted by the NSW and Australian federal police.

If 2Day FM is found to be liable, the station would be facing criminal charges.

2Day FM appeared to have been caught off-guard with the recent turn of events. A source said 2Day FM is wondering why the issue resurfaced after seven months.

Last February, the Crown Prosecution Service of Britain cleared the radio station from any evidence of manslaughter. The agency also said that it would not pursue charges connected with malicious communications and data protection.

The radio station created a huge controversy when its hosts Mel Greig and Michael Christian played a prank call on Jacintha Saldanha, one of the nurses taking care of the Duchess of Cambridge while she was in the hospital.

The hosts pretended to be Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth, which led the nurse to divulge private information about the condition of Princess Catherine. The phone conversation was broadcast on Australian radio.

Saldanha subsequently committed suicide. In her suicide note, she blamed the two DJs.
