Growth of Mobile Devices Seen Past 7.4 Billion

February 23, 2013 by rochelle in Business with 0 Comments

Data from the GSMA, an association of cell operators, released during the opening of the Mobile World Congress, indicates that any time this year, there would be more mobile devices globally than people.

At the end of 2012, the numbers of mobile devices have reached 6.8 billion and it’s still rising regularly. The data has pegged that it could go up to 7.4 billion this year, while human population is growing steadily at 7.1 billion.

The rise can be attributed to the fact that many users rely on more than 1 mobile phone or gadget to use, while subscribing to two or more different types of services. Service companies all over the world have actually reached 3.2 billion.

The Mobile World Congress is an event that takes place every year. About 70,000 participants are expected this year, making this industry one of the fastest growing in the world.

With new devices and new applications being developed regularly, the congress aims to find more innovative ways to improve use of mobile technology. And for this year, the focus has been on developing a system where mobile payments are already viable worldwide.

It’s been said that whoever does come up with this ambitious, but very plausible idea, will end up making and winning billions of users.
