Is Rachael Leahcar The Next Susan Boyle?

April 17, 2012 by rochelle in People with 0 Comments

Rachael Leahcar has captured the hearts of Australians when she sang a soulful rendition of La Vie en Rose in The Voice. The 18-year-old wowed the audience with her performance, with many calling her the new Susan Boyle.

But is Leahcar her real last name? Apparently, not. Leahcar is her first name spelled backwards. But why is the lass using a screen name?

On her Facebook page, Rachael explains that she uses a pseudonym so that her Facebook account won’t be flooded with friend requests. She made an appeal to avoid tagging her in the video of her performance as she has already been inundated with requests.

A background check showed that Rachael is legally blind. The official medical term for the condition is retinitis pigmentosa. She hasn’t let this condition impair her as she has been playing different instruments since she was five years old.

She has also been joining different talent competitions. She reached the grand finals of Fellini’s Search for a Star when she was 12 years old. She also won Dino Prizzi’s International Festival of Song when she was 15. Her prize included singing live on an Italian TV show.

Rachael studied at Adelaide’s Brighton Secondary School. Also included in her list of accomplishments are two recorded albums, several awards from numerous singing competitions, and the Royal Society for the Blind official ambassador.

She has also expressed her wish to be a role model for young people who are trying to manage their disabilities. She added that she wants to help those who are similar to her and inspire them that they can also achieve things.
